The Government’s Women’s Economic Security Statement acknowledges:
- 1 in 4 women have experienced physical or sexual violence from a partner
- Indigenous women are 32 times as likely to be hospitalised due to family violence as non-Indigenous women.
… yet the Government has still not responded to the call for urgent funding for specialist women’s legal services.
Research shows that women experiencing family violence will also, on average, experience 15 other legal problems stemming from the family violence.
Specialist women’s legal services will continue to push for an urgent increase in funding to ensure thousands of women can access the vital support they need to escape and recover from domestic and family violence.
