uHaven, provided by the Central Australian Women’s Legal Service (CAWLS), is a dedicated online resource aimed at helping young people in Central Australia and the Barkly Region build healthier relationships and understand Domestic and Family Violence.
The project emerged in response to the increased rates of Domestic and Family Violence during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially among younger individuals. Research revealed that people were experiencing such violence at earlier stages of relationships and at younger ages.
To address this issue and reduce barriers to seeking help, CAWLS initiated the creation of an online platform designed with input from young people and service providers across the region. The result is uHaven, a website that caters to the needs of young individuals and those who support them, offering information and resources.
Funded by the Commonwealth COVID-19 Legal Assistance grant program, administered by the Northern Territory Government Attorney General’s Department, uHaven aims to raise awareness, break the cycle of violence, and provide access to essential support services.
