Territory appoints David Woodroffe as first Aboriginal Local Court judge

What a wonderful way to start NAIDOC Week, seeing local leader, David Woodroffe, appointed as our next Northern Territory Acting Judge for the Local Court 👏👨‍⚖️

David Woodroffe is descended from the Jingili Modburra clan group and commenced studying a Bachelor of Laws in 1994 at the Northern Territory University 🗣️ David tells the story he wanted to study law “for family, so that in some way I could ensure that injustices such as the Stolen Generation would never happen to Aboriginal people and my family again’.

He is amongst the first cohort of Indigenous law graduates in the Northern Territory, and is one of the most senior Indigenous lawyers in the nation ⚖️

David is currently the Principal Legal Officer for the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) and served a prominent role on the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the NT.
