It’s R U OK Day and we’re calling on everyone to check in with the people in their world and ask if they’re really OK, not just today but every day 🗣️💛
The ups and downs of life can affect each of us differently. Sometimes it won’t be obvious that someone is struggling, but having the support of family, friends and close colleagues can help those close to us better navigate the challenges that come their way…
Staff in various organisations across Central Australia deal with some fairly heavy topics on a frequent/daily basis… including our team at CAWLS. As a way to “check in” with our team, CAWLS hosted a morning tea to catch up and take a breather for R U OK Day ☕
🙏 Thank You to the strong, talented and kind Melanie Rose Gunner for sharing her incredible story with our team today. Melanie is an advocate for youth mental wellbeing in the Northern Territory. Melanie spoke to our team about her passion for communicating how life is different in the regional and rural communities for young people. Melanie shared her very personal mental health story with our staff – and we are so grateful and honoured to have her share with us. Despite her challenges with mental health and other life obstacles, Melanie successfully runs her own art business in Alice Springs, selling paintings and handmade earrings – and brought along some fantastic pieces for us all to purchase! 🤩
If you want to support someone but aren’t sure where to start, follow these four steps 👇
⚫ ASK R U OK? – Pick the right time and place and ask them how they’re going.
🟡 LISTEN – Listen with an open mind and without judgement.
⚫ ENCOURAGE ACTION – Encourage them to do something that might lighten the load.
🟡 CHECK IN – Remember to check in again soon. Your ongoing care and support can make a difference.
