Last week the Northern Territory Supreme Court sentenced a Katherine man for the death of his former partner, a 28 year old Aboriginal woman.
The Court heard the victim suffered through years of an “abusive, controlling and threatening” relationship.
In sentencing, Justice Judith Kelly made comment on the fact “there is too much violence in our community, unfortunately, especially against Aboriginal women.”
Sadly, this is a story that reflects the reality of many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women…
We have heard these comments before.
We know the statistics.
