The current model of federal funding for the domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) sector in Australia is based on population size
For the Northern Territory, this means that it only receives 1.8% of federal DFSV funding… but DFSV in the NT is frequent, severe and occurs at a much higher rate than any other state, with these rates of violence amongst the highest in the world
On top of this, the NT’s population is spread across large remote areas, which makes access to DFSV services more challenging and expensive to deliver.
We are calling on the government to commit to needs-based funding rather than population based funding, to support frontline services end domestic, family, and sexual violence in the NT
