Earlier this month, CAWLS Barkly Lawyer, Anisha, attended the National Homelessness Conference held by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) and Homelessness Australia, along with other delegates from across the Northern Territory, sponsored by NT Shelter 🏘️
It was an invaluable opportunity to meet other people working in the sector and hear from leaders in the field about unique policy and practice approaches to address this widespread issue 🗣️
It is clear that national funding should be needs based, and not based on population size.
📢 The Northern Territory experiences a disproportionate amount of homelessness and yet we only receive 1.3% of funding under the National Housing and Homelessness Agreement.
‼️ We cannot continue to solely rely upon on the collaborative efforts of the sector to provide housing and wrap around services to address this systemic issue.
