⚠️ Women are the fastest growing prison population across Australia. Aboriginal women, in particular, are significantly overrepresented, particularly in the Northern Territory, with an incarceration rate 14 times the rate of non-Aboriginal women 📈

It is increasingly recognised that psychological symptoms observed in victims/survivors are often the result of repeated violence and trauma. These behaviours impact engagement with the justice system and mental health system and contribute to misidentification and criminalisation of women as perpetrators of DFV 🚨

🙏 We thank the Attorney General Chansey Paech for two years’ funding to assist women who have criminal law matters before the Local and Supreme Court in Alice Springs ⚖️

👥 We welcome Senior Criminal Lawyers, Amanda Lambden & Tania Collins, to the CAWLS team, who both have 25 years’ experience working in Criminal Law and are passionate advocates for human rights.
