👩🎓 We were privileged to welcome Tonkya Jamieson at CAWLS for a two-week student placement through the Community Legal Centres NSW First Nations Scholarship Program, earlier this month. This placement was made possible through a collaboration between CAWLS and the ‘McDonald Property Street Syndicate’ from Alice Springs 🙏
📖 The First Nations Cadetship Program, currently in its inaugural year, is aimed at First Nations students studying in their final two years of their degree of either Law, Communications or Social Work 👩⚖️ Students are seconded to work in a community legal centre to gain valuable on-the-ground skills and experience that will assist them to successfully employment in the community legal sector ⚖️
Tonkya is currently in the final stages of her Juris Doctor studies at the University of New South Wales. Whilst at CAWLS, she assisted our team in providing legal support for our clients, engaged and participated in youth workshops, assisted our outreach team in a visit to Ltyentere Apurte and supported many of our various community legal education programs 🙋♀️
It was great to have Chris Neck, representing ‘McDonald Property Street Syndicate’, drop in to meet with CAWLS Managing Principal Solicitor, Janet Taylor and Tonyka during her visit 👋
A big thank you to Tonkya for all her hard work and positive energy… we know she will continue to do amazing work! 💪
