Last month during the renowned Desert Mob Festival, CAWLS worked with the Araluen Arts Centre to host a workshop for the arelhe (women) from the ‘Alternative to Custody’ Program, with the aim of empowering, connecting to culture and inspiring 🙏
The group was treated to a personal tour of the Desert Mob Exhibition by the ‘Curator and Exhibitions Office’, followed by a skills workshop at Central Craft Alice Springs, where the group painted pot plants inspired by the exhibition, whilst yarning about family, home and culture 🎨Araluen and Yaye’s Cafe graciously hosted a morning tea and a delicious lunch for the participants 🍴😋
👏 Thank you to the Araluen Arts Centre for organising and hosting this lovely experience and for your earnest thoughtfulness in ensuring the arelhe felt seen, heard and respected.
Moments like these are instrumental in changing the narrative that has been set for many of the arelhe at ATC, allowing them to look to the future, instead of the past ❤️
