The Central Australian Women’s Legal Service was pleased to read in The NT News this week, that the Federal Government has committed $4 billion to have houses built in Aboriginal Communities across the NT, over the next decade
The report states that it is hoped that this will help to close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous members of our community.
It was reported by the NT News, that Mr Albanese said, “The Northern Territory has the highest level of overcrowding in the country which we are working to half by building 270 houses each year.”
Through our work at CAWLS, we know that housing is a critical need for our clients and access to safe housing is an essential right that ALL women have in the Northern Territory … especially women escaping family and domestic violence.
