Earlier this year, the Financial Counselling Foundation announced funding of 10 full-time specialist DFV financial counsellor positions for three years around Australia, of which the Central Australian Women’s Legal Service (CAWLS) was one of the successful recipients.
“CAWLS is very fortunate to receive funding for a financial counsellor” said CAWLS Managing Principal Solicitor, Janet Taylor.
“This position will provide an essential service to those women affected by DFV as part of our wrap around service. CAWLS thank the Financial Counselling Foundation and the ANZ Bank for their contributions to this important and highly necessary speciality field“.
Jane Nash, CEO of the Financial Counselling Foundation said, “Financial counselling is an essential support to those impacted by domestic violence. With the prevalence of domestic violence increasing following lockdown measures and a rise in unemployment, it is important to ensure access for people who need it.”
CAWLS is currently in the process of recruiting for a Financial Counsellor to join the team and work alongside CAWLS’ Financial Capabilities Worker, Natasha Braun who grew up in Alice Springs and has worked in a financial capacity for 25 years within a number of organisations across Central Australia and NSW.
