2024 Free + Equal Human Rights Conference

📍 At the beginning of June, CAWLS lawyers from Alice Springs & Tennant Creek, attended the ‘Free + Equal Human Rights Conference’ in Sydney, hosted by the Australian Human Rights Commission 👥

🗣️ Our team had the privilege of hearing from some of Australia’s most dedicated human rights defenders, including the Hon Justice Michael Kirby and Jennifer Robinson.

Australia remains the only liberal democracy in the world without a Human Rights Act or a Constitutional Charter of Rights 🌏⚖️

💭 The conference explored what a Federal Human Rights Act could mean for Australians, prompting our teams’ reflections on how it could protect vulnerable communities, including those across Central Australia and the Barkly region 💡
