📍 Earlier this month, CAWLS’ Lawyer, Shamiena Ebrahim, attended ‘WESNET‘s 5th Technology Safety Summit‘, at the Telstra Customer Insight Centre, Melbourne 📲
🗣 Delegates heard from a variety of speakers and participated in many discussions on the innovative ways that technology has grown to aid and enrich lives – whilst on the other hand, how technology has been misused by perpetrators of harm to stalk, harass and abuse 💻
💬 Following the summit, Shamiena shared, “the reality is that you can’t protect against every single threat that is out there – but you can remain updated and keep vigilant through continuous learning and educating others on ways to be tech safe. Technology can be used in a way that is useful for survivors to strategize safely and raise awareness about the issues that they are facing, and to also keep connected with their support network.”
“Progression is not about isolating victim survivors away from using technology, but to educate and empower them with tools and resources for them to take back their power and control” 💪🖥
